San Antonio Founder Lions Club Roll of Merit

For over 85 years, the San Antonio Founder Lions Club has been serving San Antonio, South Texas and the world. Many fine Lion members, living and deceased are part of our history. It was determined that it was time to honor those Lions who lodge more prominently in our memories. There was a proposal to create a Roll of Merit, or Roll of Honor, and to inscribe the names and membership dates of past and present Lions selected for this honor.

Guidelines for membership selection:

  1. The person nominated must be or have been a member of the Lions Club of San Antonio, the predecessor City Club, or the Royal Order of Lions original den.
  2. The person nominated must be or have been of high moral character and respected within the community.
  3. As a direct result of the activities of the person nominated, the status and character of the Lions Club of San Antonio has been advanced in the membership's eyes and in the eyes of the community or of Lions International.
  4. The Roll of Merit committee will be made up of current members of the club who are past presidents and will be chaired by the immediate past president. To assure that maximum participation is achieved, the chair will make every effort to receive 100% response on all voting items.
  5. Each committee member will be allowed to propose 2 names for consideration.
  6. The nomination application will be supported by a statement of 25 words or more, describing the character and accomplishments of the nominee.
  7. From the names submitted, the committee's chair will select 12 names for further consideration. The 12 will consist of no less than 4 deceased members.
  8. Each committee member will then vote for 2 of the 12 nominees. The top 6 nominees will then be submitted to the committee for final vote.
  9. By secret ballot, each member of the committee will vote on 2 of the 6 finalists. To be inducted, a nominee must receive the vote of 5 1% of the members of the committee. Annually no more than 2 individuals will be inducted into the Roll Of Merit. If there are more than 2 nominees receiving the required 51% of the votes, then the 2 nominees receiving the most votes will be inducted into the Roll.
  10. In the case of a tie, a special tie breaking vote will be cast.
  11. This honor shall be irrevocable.
